Memorial Day 05/29/2010
IRIS BLOOMSMy Iris blooms are planted in memory of my former neighbor, Mrs. Sylvia Skipper, who passed away one month before our move to Big Valley. She was 90 years old. The Skipper family invited me to dig up their mother's Iris bed and take the tubers to my new garden in the valley. Each Memorial Day when the Iris bloom my thoughts recall this wonderful lady who taught me to grow and preserve foods the old fashion way which today we call the green and organic movement. Ascension DayThe Amish close their schools, shops, markets, and sawmills to celebrate Ascension Day. Buggies are heading to the river at Mill Creek, McVeytown, and to Greenwood Furnace State Park to enjoy a picnic with family and friends. Ascension Day is the 40th day after Easter and occurs 10 days before Pentecost. It celebrates Jesus Christ's ascension into heaven after his death on the cross. The date depends upon the phase of the moon in a particular year. Ascension Day is always celebrated on a Thursday. Rest 05/12/2010

Ernest Olson Come unto me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you REST. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am GENTLE and LOWLY in heart, and you will find REST FOR YOUR SOULS. ~ Jesus ~ (Matthew 11:28 - 29) | A WINTER SUNSETA WINTER ORCHARDA WINTER SKYA WINTER FORESTCopyright © 2010-2012 Natural Designs.
