Acres of sunflowers 09/26/2009
SUNFLOWERS We took a drive last weekend to see this 30 acre field of sunflowers. The flowers were facing east even though the sun was setting in the west. I am designing bouquets of sunflowers for a wedding next weekend. The bride told me that sunflowers are a spiritual flower because they follow the sun just like believers follow the son. O BEAUTIFUL FOR SPACIOUS SKIESThis is today's sunrise from my kitchen window. It was like watching a video as the colors changed within seconds. "Red in the morning is sailor's warning." However, it was a beautiful sunny day with no hint of rain. This is today's sunset. "Red at night is sailor's delight." The forcast is calling for 60 percent chance of rain tomorrow afternoon. BUTTERFLIES I have enjoyed the many winged visitors at the butterfly bush. Recently, I purchased "A Pocket Guide To Butterflies & Moths" to study more about the world of butterflies and their remarkable facts and details. Butterflies elicit a range of emotions in us, from wonder at their beauty to their metamorphose and unbelievable feats of physical achievement. Corn Harvest 09/19/2009
I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW In spite of the morning fog I found myself singing: "I can see clearly now the corn is gone! I can see neighbors across the way. Gone is the corn that surrounds the property. It's gonna be a bright, bright, sunshiny day." For several months there has been a 7 foot wall of corn on either side of the road and around the yard. I felt I was driving or walking through a corn maze. This past week the corn has been harvested with every day creating a new view. Notice that the corn has been cut in the field. The privacy of the corn is nice, but I'm glad for the open space when harvest time rolls around. Today's Thoughts 09/18/2009
SEPTEMBER GOLD The goldenrod has been blooming for weeks. It seems to like the dry weather we are having. I have been clipping and hanging it in the drying attic for winter arrangements. The smell of chrysanthemums fill the air while I work in the garden. At one time I had yellow, lavender, and rust colored mums. This year I only have yellow mums blooming. I quess they are the hardiest. Bus Rides 09/18/2009
SCHOOL DAYS OF SEPTEMBER Every morning and afternoon the buses come rolling through the valley taking students to private and public schools. The Amish children are riding buses and walking less. Other students have hour long bus rides to get to the public schools at either end of the valley. One of the happiest times of the day is stepping off that bus and heading home. It always was for me! WILD GEESE I heard the familiar honking of geese rather early this morning. The birds seemed to be coming in all direction before they landed in the field behind the house. There is no water in this field but I suppose it made a good meeting place and resting stop. I tried to get a photo. They saw me coming and took flight in the direction of south, of course! Inspirational Point Last Sunday I witnessed something that took my breath away. We had stopped at a vista to view the beautiful mountain ranges, the river, and villages below. The area was new to us and after taking many dirt roads we were confused and somewhat lost. Another car pulled off the road and two couples began climbing a small bank with binoculars. They asked if we had seen the eagles. What eagles? Apparently eagles are spotted here quite often. These folks lived in the valley below and came to the mountain in hopes of finding inspiration after a very difficult week. They had buried their son the day before. While sharing the story of how their son was murdered, an eagle glided swiftly down into the valley and circled back to the mountain top. A second eagle with full white head and huge wing span sailed by on currents of wind barely moving a wing. “There they are” someone shouted! We were breathless then scrammed for field glasses and cameras to capture the moment. As the majestic eagles took altitude out of sight I heard the grieving mother exclaim with hands reaching to the heavens, “They shall mount up with wings as eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint.” It was an inspirational moment that will stay with me for a long time. | A WINTER SUNSETA WINTER ORCHARDA WINTER SKYA WINTER FORESTCopyright © 2010-2012 Natural Designs.
