American Holly 11/29/2009
THE HOLLY & THE IVYThese native American holly trees grow on a family farm. I have been clipping from them for years. They stand 20 feet tall on the edge of the woods next to a fresh water spring. Old French Carol The holly and the ivy When they are both full grown Of all the trees that are in the wood The holly bears the crown. Add Comment Today's Thoughts 11/25/2009
NEW DISCOVERIES The leaves of life keep falling. - unknown I am surprised to discover the many bird's nest in my yard now that the leaves are gone. I hope to continue to make new discoveries that bring me joy as the leaves of life keep falling. She loves me, She loves me not 11/19/2009
The Larch TreeI love the "rose plumelets" that grow on the Larch tree every spring. They become dainty cones that I use in dried arrangements. I do not enjoy the needles that drop in the fall. Larch needles are in the attic, the basement stairwell, and all over the porch and patio. When the tree is bare the clean up begins. Enjoy The Moment 11/16/2009
STOP & SMELL THE ROSESWhile clipping some Arborvitae greens I notice the minature roses blooming at my feet. I pause and take in the smell of this heirloom rose that once grew in my mother's childhood yard. Ten years ago I planted a small cutting and it continues to thrive with very little attention. The roses are only the size of a quarter but their fragrance is dynamic. The pressure of the holiday season is already beginning but hopefully these little roses will serve as a reminder for me to stop and enjoy the pleasant moments along the way. AMISH NEIGHBORSI snapped this photo as our neighbor was leaving the driveway. He stopped to see if my husband could fix his electric foot massager. It was discovered that he only needed new batteries for his charging device. We had a good chuckle. He said he should have thought of that before he bothered someone. Strong Roots 11/10/2009
THE WIND AND THE WILLOWGraceful as a willow. The willow is the first tree to leaf out in the springtime and one of the last to drop leaves in the fall. This willow tree endures the strong winds from the west each season as it shelters my herb garden. Now that it is mature, I realize that I should have given it more support in those tender years....... much like reflecting on parenting skills with our children. Perhaps the blizzard winds have strengthen this willow for the better giving it deep roots and the ability to be graceful in any storm. A comforting thought in regards to parenting too. Morning Fog Sometimes we must "trust when we cannot see"! The fog is thick as pea soup this morning. I cannot see my neighbors. The weatherman calls for 70 degree temps and sunny skies so I dress accordingly in good faith that he is correct. Faith is about trusting and believing when we cannot see. Otherwise it would not require faith. Chilly with Sunshine 11/02/2009
COLD SNAPS & SEED BURSTLast night's full moon and clear skies brought a heavy frost and chilly 32 degrees. The milkweed pods are bursting and parachuting their seeds into the morning breeze. My elders say that during the war the downy softness from the milkweek pod was harvested and stuffed inside quilts and coats for insulation. | A WINTER SUNSETA WINTER ORCHARDA WINTER SKYA WINTER FORESTCopyright © 2010-2012 Natural Designs.
